Dear Parks Supporter,
We have three parks-related updates:
1. The CCMIP 2021 VOTERS’ GUIDE is complete and available here: https://protectmiparks.org/2021votersguide
We hope you will read it, and if you have questions for any of the candidates--those who responded to our questions, as well as those whose responses we did not receive--we hope that you will follow up with them. Please forward this email to your friends and neighbors, and encourage them to vote for candidates who will strongly and actively protect our treasured parks and open spaces.
2. Virtual Candidate Forum this Tuesday, October 12 at 7 PM
A good opportunity to listen to the candidates is the League of Women Voters Virtual Candidate Forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Seattle-King County and Mercer Island PTA Council 2.9, on this Tuesday, October 12, from 7-8:30 pm. Register in advance to view the forum at: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_coN7jrQ8SPKDWv9996zzpg
The League welcomes anyone with questions for the candidates to send their questions before October 12 to: advocacy@miptacouncil.org. This is an opportunity to ask the candidates YOUR most pressing parks related question.
3. Island Books “Meet and Greet the Candidate Programs” coming up
Island Books is hosting events to offer voters and candidates the opportunity to discuss their vision for Mercer Island and to share their views on the key issues for the city, in a casual setting at Island Books. Up to 20 fully vaccinated and masked citizens may attend in person, with proof of vaccination. Citizens are also invited to attend virtually through Zoom. Although the events for Michael Curry, Daniel Becker and Lisa Anderl have already taken place, there are still opportunities to meet the other three City Council Candidates and to ask them their views about your park protection questions and concerns. Please RSVP to info@islandbooks.com for the session(s) you would like to attend in person. Zoom links for the sessions are posted on the Island Books Facebook page. The schedule for the upcoming Meet the Candidate events for City Councilmembers at Island Books is:
And…remember to VOTE!
The general election is set for November 2. Ballots will be mailed on Wednesday, October 13, and drop boxes will open on October 14. A local drop box will be located at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center parking lot at 8236 SE 24thStreet.
Thank you for your advocacy AND for your financial support that helps Protect Our Mercer Island Parks for Islanders not only now, but also for future generations.
